Introduction
St Catherine’s Day Care opened in April 1985 to provide care and support for patients who wish to continue living in their own homes.
The unit is situated within the Hospice building. It currently provides specialised palliative care for up to twenty patients each day (Monday to Friday). Most of these patients are experiencing problems related to living with cancer but a small number of places are available to those with other conditions.
Day Care is nurse led and provides individual programmes of care that address physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual problems.
The service is supportive in nature and works in liaison with GP’s, Support Nurses, District Nurses and Hospital Palliative Care Teams.
A range of core and hospice services are available for patients and care is delivered in keeping with the hospice philosophy. All services are free of charge.
