Carers' Corner

A Carer is someone who provides unpaid regular and substantial support to a friend, relative, partner or other person who cannot manage without help because of a physical or mental illness, disability or dependency.

The support may include personal care such as washing and dressing, practical care such as feeding and helping with medication and emotional support such as providing company.

Carers' have a legal right to request an assessment of their needs if they are providing ' substantial care' for somebody. The assessment will include discussions about the support provided by the carer, the needs of the person who is cared for and available services for carers.

Please contact 08450 530009 to request a Carers' Assessment

Carers' Events at St Catherine's Hospice

Carers' Drop In

The Carers' Drop In is held on the 1st Tuesday of the month between 1.00pm - 3.00pm. This event is a chance to meet with other carers, enjoy a relaxation therapy from one of our therapists, have a cuppa and pick up information about services in the Preston, Chorley and South Ribble area.

The next Carers' Drop In is scheduled for Tuesday 7th September from 1pm to 3pm. This is an opportunity to participate in some furthur planning and ground work for the Carers Garden Plot, develop new IT skills on a laptop and learn new skills on mobile phones! All carers welcome and if you are not keen on gardening or information technology thats fine, you can sit and chat with other carer’s in a friendly atmosphere and maybe try out complementary therapy.

St Catherine's Hospice is working in partnership with Chorley and South Ribble CVS Carers 1st.

If you have any queries or require any further information regarding the above event please contact Cheryl Scott or Jessica Seed on 01772 629171

A poem written by a carer at the Drop In.

It was a busy day for carers

With suggesting ideas bright

From card making to computers

Ideas that brought delight.

We though of flower arranging

And more plants for our plot

Painting it it was possible

We most excited got.

Then came the piece de resistance

Well it was for me alone

Cheryl's going to teach us

How to use a mobile phone.

I look forward to taking photographs

And then I will you see

Put them in my emails

And send them to the BBC!
