STEP 3 OF SIX STEPS - Co-ordination of Care has now been completed, this was well attended.  26 out of the 35 registered homes were represented on this course with a total of 61 delegates.
Some quotes from evaluations received following this course:-

“Share with colleagues so that others recognise early deterioration symptoms
and who to contact”

“Gained lots of new knowledge today”
“I will continue to inform all staff of new knowledge gained, so as a team we are
practicing appropriate care”

STEP 4 OF SIX STEPS - Delivery of High Quality Care in Care Homes is currently being delivered.  To date 16 out of the 35 registered homes were represented on this course with a total of 32 delegates.  The module objectives are:-

  • To identify a training plan for all staff involved in End of Life Care;
  • Identify how to access a complex combination of services across different settings;
  • Further develop the Care Home End of Life Care Policy.

We have also looked at dignity and the caring environment, and looked at how we can achieve high quality care for our residents, at the end of their lives.

“To ensure practice and delivery of care effectively, pass on information to all staff”
“Furthered my understanding for my job role”

STEP 5 OF SIX STEPS - Care in the Last Days of Life is currently being developed and teaching is due to commence on 1st March 2012.

Development of a full day workshop on the Liverpool Care Pathway is also in progress.

Dates in March are now set for launching the Cohort 2 of Six Steps, and invitations are now being sent out to homes.  Teaching due to commence in May please email k.gahagan@stcatherines.co.uk to register interest.

We already have many homes interested in the programme, which is great news!  Some delegates from cohort 1 have been interviewed, and some quotes and photographs have been obtained in order to promote the next group.

Thank you for your continued support
