Families & Carers
Familes and carers of people with life threatening illnesses often need support with their own social and emotional wellbeing and at times, things may seem overwhelming.
That’s why the Family Support Team at St Catherine’s Hospice provides support that extends far beyond the immediate needs of the person with the life threatening illness by including families and carers when appropriate. The team can offer emotional, financial, practical, psychological and spiritual support and encourage people to maintain their independence as far as is practicable.
Many people or families find it invaluable to have someone who understands and supports them during their times of need. Often, they just need someone to listen or give practical help and advice.

Sometimes, in addition to the emotional support a family provides when someone is ill, they often find themselves in the role of an unpaid carer which can incorporate much more than initially realised. This is something we fully appreciate, value and support. Likewise, the Family Support Team is here to provide ongoing support along with information and opportunities for carers to share their experiences with other carers in a friendly environment.
In addition, when requested, we remain a source of support to bereaved people where it is needed whilst respecting the wishes of those who wish grieve privately.
Each person is unique and we recognise the response for that person and their family is different so, we are here to ensure that you access the right level and type of support you need.
