The BAE Systems Saudi Arabia Charity Challenge Team choose St Catherine's

The BAE Systems Saudi Arabia Charity Challenge Team in the UK were awarded the Most Improved Site earlier this year by BAE Systems Corporate for their Charity work and involvement during the 2008 and 2009 campaign.  The Team, with the help of the employees raised almost £50k, compared to the previous campaign where we raised £10k.  For their achievements the Team were awarded a trophy and £1k in prize money which was to be donated to a Charity of their choice.  Because the Team couldn't have achieved what they did without the employees, they asked them which local Charity they would like to donate the money too and St Catherine's Hospice was the favourite - which is a very rewarding Charity and the money will hopefully help them in their continued work

GREAT “Sporting Events”to celebrate
St Catherine’s Hospice 25th Anniversary!

In 2010 St Catherine’s Hospice celebrates its 25th Anniversary. John Gibson who works for a National Governing Body of Sport and is a member of the Lancashire Sports Board has put together a “Sporting Events Calendar”. John is a Volunteer Fundraiser for and a huge supporter of the Hospice.

The main aim of the “Events” is to raise the awareness of the Hospice, especially to a younger generation within the local community. The range of services provided at the Hospice is extensive, yet the provision of care is not just confined to the building itself. What is far less well known is that much of St Catherine’s work takes place in people’s own homes and so these activities will not only promote health and fitness, but also expand the public’s knowledge of the breadth of services that St Catherine’s provides. Hopefully, it will also generate some much needed funds to grow these services still further.

The GB Energy Group, based in Cable Court, Pittman Way, Fulwood, Preston, which supplies energy-saving products and services to commercial and domestic markets across the UK, is sponsoring the whole event. Luke Watson, the Group MD, said “As a keen sportsman myself, I am delighted to get behind this event in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice”.

To date the programme includes 29 different sports. However, St Catherine’s is still on the lookout for more. If you are interested, then please contact John Gibson on 07970067703, or if you just want more information, then visit the following websites:
www.gb-energy.com / www.stcatherines.co.uk

Our first event is the “Preston Table Tennis 2010 Championships” on Sunday 7th March at St Augustine’s New Avenham Centre. Play starts at 9.30am and includes top local players, both juniors and adults. Admission is FREE. Why not spare a few minutes and come down with your children. Who knows, it’s a sport they may want to try!

Being such a special year, lets make 2010 not only a bumper one in the local community, but also a great year to remember!
