Bake Off Contest, Afternoon Tea, Recipe Book Launch and Antiques Valuation Afternoon

A big thank you to everyone who put their best baking skills to the test to support the first ever St Catherine’s Bake Off competition!

Keen bakers from across the area competed for the coveted crown in four mouth-watering categories of cup cake, Victoria sandwich, traybake and the children’s bake.

Six-year-old Alice Gilkes was the winner in the kids’ category with her delicious chocolate marshmallow crunch creation.

A tasty lemon drizzle created by Julie Garlick scooped first prize in the traybake category, while Janet Johnston was crowned queen of the cup cakes.

The hospice’s very own Bernadette Baxter, who works as a nurse on the in-patient unit, was awareded the top prize in the Victoria sponge category.

On the same afternoon, a cook book compiled using recipes passed on by staff, volunteers and supporters was also launched and afternoon tea was served in The Mill.

Experts from Warren and Wignall were also on hand to value antiques and collectibles in return for a donation to the hospice.
