When you don’t know what to say (November)

This session is open to members of the public, patients, families, supporters and volunteers.

It’s good to talk – but what happens when the topic is too tricky or the subject too sensitive? This one-day course aims to equip people with some basic skills to open up difficult conversations around sensitive subjects, such as life-shortening illnesses, death, and bereavement.

We want to help people to have effective, productive conversations, whilst recognising the emotions that are involved. By offering some prompts and guidance, we hope it will help people to support relatives, friends and neighbours who may be going through a difficult time – and ensure people no longer look back with regret and think ‘I just didn’t know what to say’.

What will I learn?

  • Why conversations might be difficult
  • Recognising the emotions involved
  • Basic communication skills
  • Listening skills
  • Techniques for talking

This session is FREE to attend, simply fill out the form below and we will be in touch. Alternatively, you can call the Education Department on 01772 629171.
