Meet one of our volunteers
Irene Wilson says signing up to become a volunteer at the St Catherine’s Hospice shop gave her a reason to motivate her again following the death of her dear husband Christopher.
She says: “I joined the Lune Street team in May 2012. I’d lost my husband of 50 years in the January of that year and I decided I needed something to keep myself motivated – it was becoming too easy to just stay at home, not getting out and about. I thought volunteering with St Catherine’s would be a great way to do it and I was right.
“I’m so glad I did it – I really enjoy it. I like meeting the people and the manager of the shop has been so good to me. It feels great to be helping to raise the funds the hospice needs to keep running. I think St Catherine’s does tremendous work and I try to do my bit.
“Lune Street is a beautiful shop – particularly downstairs in the bridal department. It’s wonderful seeing the brides come in to choose a dress – it’s such an exciting time!
“Working as a volunteer there keeps me occupied and is very sociable too. I’d recommend it to anyone, especially those who find themselves in a similar situation to the one I was. It really makes a difference.”
Donate to our shops
Most of our shops rely on donations from members of the public for their stock and we always need clean, saleable items in good condition that people will want to buy.
