Welcome to the website for St Catherine’s Hospice Care and thank you for your interest in our charity and its work. St Catherine’s is here for local people when it really matters most. We work to help people facing life-shortening illnesses to have a better quality of life.
The specialised care and support that we provide for your relatives, friends, neighbours and colleagues is only possible thanks to the wonderful support we receive from our community, who help us to raise the £5m that we need each year.
We are your local hospice – inspired, pioneered and built by local people, for local people. Money raised here is spent here, providing care at the hospice, in the community and at home which makes all the difference to those affected by life-shortening illnesses.
One of my most poignant memories at St Catherine’s is of a young boy whose very poorly mum was being looked after here, her stay with us coincided with his birthday and, to our complete surprise, a couple of days afterwards he presented an envelope to a nurse containing some money. ‘What’s this?’ the nurse asked, ‘Oh’ he said with a big beam on his face, ‘I sold one of my birthday presents to help you look after my mum.’
Amazing moments like this are not uncommon at St Catherine’s – from the patient who is able to get out of bed for the first time in days, to the carer given a vital helping hand before breaking point, or the volunteer celebrating another decade of service.
So thank you again for your special interest. Whatever the reason for your visit to our website – whether you are looking for some guidance and reassurance about what St Catherine’s is really like and the services we provide, or want to be inspired to get involved and support us – I hope you find this website helpful and informative. If you have any suggestions for improvement we would be very pleased to hear from you through our feedback form by clicking here.
