Volunteers – Reception Desk

St Catherine’s Hospice is looking for friendly volunteers to welcome patient visitors at reception.  These volunteering roles significantly help our nurses to focus on patient care.

We are looking for volunteers who can predominantly cover weekends, may be ad hoc shifts would suit your better, or a dedicated shift of 4 hours between 9 am and 8 pm? (whatever you prefer we would love to hear from you)

What does the role involve?

Greeting visitors and making them feel welcome.

Ensuring visitors are signed into the building.

Directing visitors where to go on the inpatient unit.

Accepting donations.

What you will get out of it

A rewarding experience and opportunity to be part of St Catherine’s volunteering team by assisting nurses, patients and their families.

What is expected of me?

The ideal volunteer for this role would be friendly and approachable, and be able to offer comfort to any visitors if needed.

This role requires a person that is able to work independently and highlight any issues or queries to the nursing staff if they arise.

An understanding of confidentiality and data protection.

Sharing St Catherine’s values of being caring, compassionate and committed.

Training will be provided.

Points of the role to consider

Dependent on the patient bed occupancy and time of the shift, the role can be quiet at times.

The main reception is situated on the other side of the main doors to the inpatient unit.

It is a lone working role and does not have direct supervision.

A DBS will be required
