60 Miles Later … 260 Very Tired Legs
Congratulations to everyone who took part in this year’s Manchester to Blackpool bike ride for St Catherine’s Hospice on Saturday 8th July 2012.
The ridersraiseda fantastic £17,000which will help to makea big difference to the lives of patients and their families.St Catherine’s provides essential specialised medical and nursing care to local peoplein Central Lancashire who are living with medical conditions that, although they can be treated, they can not be cured. This care is provided free of charge to those who need it at home, in the community and at the Hospice, thanks to the efforts of our supporters.
Despite the difficult weather conditions 130 cyclists from all over the UK made the journey to the North West to take part in the 60 mile bike ride in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice from Old Trafford football ground through to the South Promenade in Blackpool. Martyn Slowinski, who has completed the bike ride for St Catherine’s Hospice twice before said, “I participated as my wife passed away at the Hospice in October 2010 and it was payback for the care shown to both of us.”
He went on to add, “The day went very well and completion is always a feeling of a job well done. It’s a fun ride and there is always a spirit of camaraderie amongst all the riders.”
St Catherine’s Hospice would also like to say thank you to everyone who volunteered and worked solidly on the day, especially those who ensured that cyclists received water at our very own St Catherine’s Hospice water stops.
Overall, the day was a great success and it was fantastic to see the 130 participants so enthusiastic and dedicated to completing the 60 mile bike ride.It couldn’t have been done without the support of local businesses who also helped on the day – Avacab, Paul’s Farm in Dunkirk Lane Leyland, DW Gym, Smart Image and special thanks to TNT who provided transport for the bikes.
