Bank celebrates 10 years of supporting St Catherine’s and Hospice UK

We’re saying a huge thank you to staff from a Preston bank as they celebrate 10 years of supporting St Catherine’s Hospice!

Yorkshire Bank in Fishergate have organised countless fundraisers and taken part in several sponsored events over the years, generating thousands of pounds to support our care in Central Lancashire.

Along with the wonderful efforts locally, Yorkshire and Clydesdale Bank is marking 10 years of a charity partnership with Hospice UK, the national hospice charity of which St Catherine’s is a member.  Now we’ve joined with Hospice UK in the #DecadeOfDifference campaign ,  thanking Yorkshire Bank and its staff for their ongoing support.

Garry Wilkinson, Assistant Manager of the Preston branch who has worked for the firm for 31 years, said: “Back in the day it was one of our team – a lady called Janette Craig – who had a connection with St Catherine’s and suggested we might like to do some fundraising for them.

“At around the same time, head office announced the partnership with Hospice UK – what was then called Help the Hospices – and said they would match any funds raised so that the amount for charity was doubled. So the two went hand in hand!

“As soon as we mentioned St Catherine’s to our customers there was a connection and that continues today. Everyone who comes in knows someone who has been affected by the hospice’s work. That knowledge makes our fundraising efforts even more worthwhile, as we know what we’re doing is really helping our community and our customers.”

Activities over the years have included everything from bake off challenges to dress down days, as well as entering a team into the St Catherine’s Quiz and manning the hospice’s Light Up A Life Christmas tree in the nearby St George’s Shopping Centre.

Members of the team have also taken part in the Moonlight and Memories Walk and Garry himself completed the St Catherine’s sponsored abseil down the side of the Holiday Inn in Preston with colleague Rachel Fisher  – who also took the plunge in our skydive!

Garry added: “The past 10 years have included some very fun and rewarding experiences and we’re looking forward to many more to come.”

Emma Jacovelli, Head of Community Engagement at St Catherine’s, said: “We’re so grateful and proud to be celebrating this special milestone with Yorkshire Bank and its dedicated team here in Preston. The variety of things they have hosted or taken part in on our behalf over the years is truly fantastic, and their enthusiasm for St Catherine’s and our work has never waned over the past decade.

“Their valuable and ongoing contribution makes a huge difference to our work helping local people to have quality of life to the end of life. We’re looking forward to working with them further in the future, but for now want to take this moment to say a huge thank you for all they have done.”
