Become an Air Guitar Hero and show your support during our 30th year!
Whether you’re a fan of classic rock, cheesy pop or mosh-tastic metal, St Catherine’s Hospice is calling on you to give it all you’ve got on the air guitar to show your support for the charity as they celebrate their 30th birthday.
Following in the footsteps of the #NoMakeUpSelfie and the #IceBucketChallenge, St Catherine’s hope their #AirGuitarChallenge will inspire the community to have fun in the name of a worthwhile cause whilst raising vital funds for the hospice.
Inspired by Status Quo’s open air Symphony at the Tower concert on Friday July 3, the Air Guitar Challenge was kick-started by nurses from the hospice’s in-patient unit who were filmed rocking out to The Quo classic Rockin’ All Over The World.
In line with the other-well-known charity campaigns, participants who take part in the Air Guitar Challenge are encouraged to nominate friends, family and celebrities to help spread the word about the campaign.
You can see the nurses’ video – and find out who they nominated – online here now and Facebook page ‘St Catherine’s Hospice, Lancashire’.
As part of the 30th anniversary Give A Gift campaign with the Lancashire Evening Post, the Lostock Hall hospice wants 3,000 Air Guitar Heroes to take part, spreading the word of St Catherine’s at the same time.
Sarah Walker, head of communications at the hospice – who chose Chuck Berry’s Johnny B.Goode as her air guitar anthem and nominated the LEP news team – said: “As we celebrate three decades of care we want news of our extra special birthday to go viral! But we can only do that with the help of all our wonderful supporters across Central Lancashire.
“We want to have some fun – busting the myth that hospices are scary or depressing places – celebrate all that we’ve achieved together in the past 30 years, and raise some vital funds to help support our work today and in the future.
“All you have to do is pick your favourite guitar anthem, get someone to film you giving it all you’ve got on the air guitar, upload it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and nominate three friends to do the same. Crucially, we’re asking people to text HOSPICE GUITAR to 70444 to make a £3 donation – every penny raised really does make a difference.”

2. Think about any props you might want – rock star shades? A cool dude leather jacket? A head-banging hair-do?
3. Get someone to film you playing along on your air guitar – don’t forget to include an introduction along these lines: This is my/our Air Guitar Challenge to celebrate 30 years of St Catherine’s Hospice. I’ve/we’ve donated £3 by texting Hospice Guitar to 70444. I /we nominate xxx.
4. Text HOSPICE GUITAR to 70444 to donate £3
