BLOG: Fundraising Ideas
Keep the wave of compassion going….new ideas for fundraising
We’re constantly inspired by the kindness and creativity of our supporters. Every fundraiser, and every amount, helps us to care for those who need us most.
If you’re looking for new inspiration though, here are a few ideas of fun ways to ensure that St Catherine’s Hospice can keep pace with increasing demand for our help.
And get in touch if you have MORE ideas for how we can fundraise to care for thousands of local people with life-shortening conditions like cancer, motor neurone disease and heart failure.
Reverse Garage Sale
Open your garage doors and instead of selling things, ask neighbours and friends to donate clothes in good condition, and resalable books, pre-loved bric-a-brac and other items. You could drop these donations off when our Donations Van sets up in the Hospice car park on the first Thursday of every month, from 9-11am.
Please remember, things need to be complete, clean and appealing, so our 12 shops can continue their amazing work.
Do your own sale instead of sponsorship
One novel twist on getting ‘sponsors’ for an event is to ask for good quality items to be donated instead of cash. You can then donate them to our shops, do your own car boot sale, or sell them online to raise money for St Catherine’s Hospice.
Make your prizes part of the ripple effect
Running a competition or raffle? You could buy a Gift Card for a meal at The Mill as a prize, to introduce people to our superb restaurant in St Catherine’s Park, Lostock Hall. The Mill contributes all its profit to our fundraising.
Nominate us as Charity of the Year
Does your employer, social club, community group, favourite supermarket or other organisation have a ‘Charity of the Year’? We would love to be nominated.
For example, when Amber River True Bearing Chartered Financial Planners chose us, and this became part of a generous £13,000 donation to the Hospice.
Could your children’s school do a non-uniform day in return for donations?
Workplace fundraising
Here’s an idea to pitch to your HR team. As a team building exercise and to raise money, staff could all swap roles for an hour or even a half day.
Or engage a professional to give shoulder and neck/head massages one lunch time, charging colleague to benefit. An alternative would be a relaxing chair Yoga session.
You could have one day a month when everyone forgoes an expensive coffee and donates the equivalent in cash. Or create a few laughs with a word of the week collection box; £1 if anyone say “Teams” this week.
Easy way to organise and manage fundraising.
Setting up a JustGiving page is one of the easiest ways to collect sponsorship or other donations. The money comes straight to us. Visit www.justgiving.com/charity/stcatherinespreston or use the QR code, then follow the instructions to set up your own page. Friends and family could be team members too.
You can then share the link and spread the word about where to make donations.
Food, fashion shows, gym challenges, murder mysteries
Some of the most successful fundraising ventures are the ones when your ‘audience’ has fun and gets something they want.
This is why cake and plant sales are always popular. So are fitness challenges, quizzes and fashion shows.
How about organising a Silent Disco somewhere outdoors? Headphones on, and everyone can boogie and get active without disturbing the peace.
Lastly, don’t forget the Hospice has a year-round programme of activities you can join in to raise money such a mountain treks, exciting walks and sky dives.
We are always happy to provide advice and ideas to our wonderful community of fundraisers. So please keep in touch: ring 01772 629171 or email fundraising@stcatherines.co.uk
Registering your event with us is always appreciated and it means we can provide you with items to support your activities too, such a collection buckets and T-shirts.
