Car Raffle win came at the perfect time for generous grandma Dorothy
Dorothy Cutts was just about to head out for lunch at the café run by St Catherine’s Hospice – when she discovered she’d won the charity’s car raffle!
The Fiat 500 Rock Star had been on display in The Mill’s car park in the hospice grounds, so Dorothy couldn’t believe the coincidence when she arrived for a bite to eat with her daughter.
And the win came at the perfect time, as she gifted it to her beloved grandson just as his 21st birthday approached.
She’s now encouraging others to enter this year’s St Catherine’s car raffle to support the cause and be in with a chance of winning a Fiat 500 Lounge.
“A lady rang me just as I was about to leave the house to go to The Mill,” Dorothy explained. “She said she was from St Catherine’s so I assumed it was to do with the booking at the café. I couldn’t believe it when she said I’d won the car!
“I don’t actually drive so I hadn’t entered expecting to win; I just did it as a way to support the hospice. It was a week before my grandson’s 21st birthday so it was wonderful timing. He’s my only grandchild and he’d passed his driving test but didn’t have a car, so I gave it to him and he was thrilled.
“He’s still got it now and it will really come in handy when he returns to university once the restrictions lift. He’s studying engineering and is a really good lad. It was lovely to be able to treat him like that.”
Dorothy, from Higher Walton, added: “I’m a member of the hospice lottery which is just £1 a week, and I always enter the car raffle too because it’s a good way to give something to a local charity. I’ve never actually experienced the care of St Catherine’s with my own friends or family, but I think it’s important to do what you can for local charities because you never know when you or someone you love may need the help and support of somewhere like St Catherine’s.”
Tickets for the car raffle are £2, and proceeds go towards the specialist palliative and end-of-life care provided at the hospice in Lostock Hall and in people’s own homes.
