Champions of the water raise money for St Catherine’s
Local business firm APG Domestic Services were victorious in more ways than one at the Preston Guild City Games this summer.
The group took part in the Dragon Boat Race at Preston Docks on the 12th July, seeing off competition from 14 other teams representing businesses across Lancashire to be crowned Dragon Boat Champions of 2015.
And St Catherine’s was also a winner – after the firm held a prize draw for a free boiler, which raised £150 for the hospice.
The race comprised of a 200m row down the Marina with the eight quickest progressing through to two showpiece finals to determine the overall champion.
Each team was made up of 16 rowers and one drummer as each boat raced to the finish line to the sound of drums pounding.
But it was the team of APG who came out on top with an impressive time of just 55 seconds, a second faster than runners-up from the University of Central Lancashire.
The day was a delight in more ways than one for Managing Director Peter Gerrard, who was glad to end a day of racing with money in the bank for St Catherine’s.
He said: “It was a fun and successful day for all. Not only because we were crowned Dragon Boat Champions, but more importantly because through a prize draw for a free boiler, we raised £150 for St Catherine’s hospice – our favourite APG charity and an extremely worthy cause”.
