St Catherine's Hospice > Chorley Building Society offers ‘Duvet Days’ and more to raise funds for St Catherine’s Hospice

Chorley Building Society offers ‘Duvet Days’ and more to raise funds for St Catherine’s Hospice

Chorley Building Society staff have donated more than £3,200 to St Catherine’s Hospice following a year of fundraising, with the most popular activity seeing colleagues compete for a ‘Duvet Day’.

From taking part in the Great North Swim and a 5k Color Run, to holding book and cake sales and enjoying dress down days, staff came up with of a variety of fun ways to raise funds for the Lostock Hall charity.

Kim Roby, from the firm’s Charity Committee, said: “We’ve had a great response from staff and this is the most we’ve ever raised for charity in a single year! Many of our colleagues have a personal connection to St Catherine’s and really wanted to do their bit to help.

“One of the most well-received fundraising ideas was to hold a raffle for a ‘duvet day’ – people bought tickets for £5 and it worked so well that we did it again in summer to give someone a chance to win a ‘sunbathing day’, offering them the opportunity to have a free day off!”

She added: “The cycling event which we held at our head office branch in Foxhole Road was another highlight. Staff collectively pedalled more than 100 miles in a day on an exercise bike, taking it in turns to complete half-an-hour stints.

“Our chief executive officer, Stephen Penlington, did the first slot and it really encouraged everyone to give it a good go. Customers donated money and people sponsored those who took part. It was really good fun and provided a bit of healthy competition, which raised so much we plan to do the same event again this year.”

It comes after Chorley Building Society recently donated a staggering £10,070 to St Catherine’s linked to its innovative Affinity Account scheme.

Finance director at St Catherine’s, Sue Clemson, explained: “Each year Chorley Building Society makes a donation based on the amount held in the accounts of Affinity Account customers who have picked St Catherine’s as their chosen charity. It doesn’t cost the saver a penny, but provides much-needed funding for the hospice, which costs £5.2million to run every single year; £3.5million of which comes from fundraising and charitable donations.”

Hospice fundraiser Hayley Jackson added: “We’ve really enjoyed working with Chorley Building Society staff over the last 12 months as they have gone the extra mile to support the hospice. They’ve come up with some really interesting and exciting ways of raising money to help fund our specialist care for people with life-shortening illnesses.

“We especially love the idea of the Duvet Day raffle, and were very touched when staff also kindly donated toiletry and pamper sets for our patients at Christmas.

“We’re so grateful for their amazing efforts and continued support – we’d like to say a very special ‘thank you’ to all staff and customers of Chorley Building Society who have contributed to an amazing year of fundraising for St Catherine’s!”
