Climbing high to support St Catherine’s
A group of pals battled against the odds to conquer the three highest mountains in the UK to raise cash for St Catherine’s Hospice.
The friends from Goosnargh scaled Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden in 11 hours 20 minutes – despite their minibus being involved in a collision with a lorry whilst travelling between peaks!
Fortunately none of the party was injured following the incident on the way back from Ben Nevis, although the side window and wing mirror of the minibus – kindly sponsored by Kiernan Construction – were damaged.
But the team – made up of Mark Watkinson, Paul Cross, Angela Sharples, Cath Heaney, Dave Rigby, Mark Rossall, Mark Baines, Alan Rigby and John Edmundson – were determined not to let it stand in the way of completing their mission.
Instead Helen Rossall – Mark’s mum – set off on an adventure of her own, driving to meet the group at Scafell with replacement minibus parts!
With the help of Helen and the team’s trusty drivers Harry Landless and John Clarke, they managed to complete the hiking challenge well under their 24 hour target.
In total a whopping £3,300 was raised, which will be split between the hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.
David Rigby said: “Special thanks go out to Kiernan Construction Ltd who supplied the minibus and fuel to the group, and to all parties involved in obtaining and supplying the minibus replacement parts at short notice.
“Particular thanks also go to everyone who donated generously to the charities.”
