Come and show your support for runners taking on the Guild marathons for St Catherine’s
More than 50 supporters, volunteers and members of staff will be pounding the pavements in the Preston Guild Marathon and Half Marathon on behalf of St Catherine’s Hospice on Sunday – and we’d love you to come along and cheer them on their way!
The races start and finish at Preston Flag Market in the city centre – with the marathon runners set on their way at 9am, followed by the half marathon runners at 10am.
Good viewing points once they are on their way include:
•University of Central Lancashire•Lea Town near the Smithy Arms Public House (PR4 0RP) or St Mary’ RC Primary School (PR4 0RJ) 9.5 miles and 20.5 miles.•Hand and Dagger Public House (PR4 0SA) (18.5 miles)•Derby Arms Public House (PR4 3SH) at Treales (13 &17 miles)•Cottam•Tom Benson Way•Tulketh Bitem•Fylde Road
The half marathon runners are expected to cross the finish line from around 11am, followed by the marathon runners from around 11.20am.
Emma Jacovelli, fundraiser at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “There will be a fantastic atmosphere guaranteed with full race commentary, street entertainers and music to keep spectators entertained.
“So come along and support these budding athletes. And don’t forget the clocks go back at 2am Sunday morning so make sure you turn up at the right time!”
A number of roads in and around the city centre will be temporarily closed to vehicles and cycles between 8am and 5pm on Sunday.
