Double boost for hospice as diamond couple celebrate special anniversary

Penwortham couple Roy and Winifred Staton celebrated 60 years of marriage with an afternoon tea party which helped raised funds for St Catherine’s Hospice.

Not only did the Staton’s use The Mill Outside – the outside catering service linked to the hospice’s on-site café The Mill – to cater for their celebration, they also  made a donation to the charity in lieu of presents.

Their daughters Jill Staton and Ann Staton helped them organise the event which they hosted at the couple’s home. Jill said: “We decided to have afternoon tea because my mum had visited The Mill café and had really enjoyed it. The afternoon tea was great and The Mill Outside team was really helpful – all the guests really enjoyed the food.

“My parents have always supported St Catherine’s and remember visiting Lostock Hall Continuation Hospital which previously occupied the site. We’re really pleased to have raised £375.”

St Catherine’s fundraiser, Hayley Jackson, said: “We’d like to say thank you for the continuous support from Mr and Mrs Staton and offer our congratulations to them on celebrating this special anniversary. Not only have they made a very generous donation in lieu of presents, but they have also supported the hospice by choosing The Mill Outside to provide the catering at their special event.

“The Mill Outside is available to hire for all sorts of occasions, from weddings and balls, to barbeques and corporate events. All profits raised go back to supporting the specialised care provided by St Catherine’s.”

The afternoon tea, which was enjoyed by 18 guests, consisted of a selection of finger sandwiches, chicken liver parfait en croute and roasted red pepper crostini, freshly baked scones and a selection of homemade desserts. The Mill also provided the diamond wedding celebration cake.
