Family and friends support St Catherine’s with a 10-day Coast to Coast walk
A team of family and friends has donated a fantastic £8,030.87 to St Catherine’s Hospice after completing a gruelling 10-day walking challenge and arranging a number of popular charity concerts
Loved ones of Irene Richards, who was cared for by St Catherine’s in 2016 after being diagnosed with cancer of the stomach, spleen and pancreas, wanted to support the work of the hospice as well as the Rosemere Cancer Foundation to help the charities continue our vital work in caring for people with life-shortening illnesses.
They kicked off their fundraising efforts with a Coast to Coast Inland Waterway Walk covering 165 miles from Goole in Leeds to Preston, followed by two musical concerts at Longton VM Sport & Social Club.
Irene’s father-in-law Reg Richards visited the Lostock Hall hospice recently to hand over a generous donation of £3,200, which has been added to funds generated online to total £8,030.87 to each of the charities.
Community engagement officer Hayley Jackson said: “It was a brilliant team effort by Irene’s beloved friends and family to complete the 10-day walk and organise two very successful concerts in support of St Catherine’s and Rosemere – we’re incredibly grateful for the lengths they’ve all gone to in raising such an amazing amount for the hospice.
“It is only thanks to people in our community who show their support in a variety of ways that we are able to continue offering our specialist palliative and end-of-life care to local people affected by conditions such as cancer, heart failure and motor neurone disease, helping them to have quality of life until the end of life. I’d like to say a very special ‘thank you’ to the ‘Irene Richards Cancer Fund’ for their wonderful support.”
