Family go the distance in memory of Catherine
Family and friends came together to complete a sponsored walk in memory of their much-loved wife, mum, grandmother and friend who was cared for by St Catherine’s Hospice.
Harry Norris and daughters Emma Greenwood, Wendy Norris and Julie Dean took part in the Morecambe Bay Walk in memory of their wife and mother Catherine. They were joined by her son-in-law Tim and grandchildren Katie and Thomas, as well friends Steve and Helen Helm and Max the dog.
In total they raised an incredible £2,000 in sponsorship from the eight-mile sponsored walk , as well as a further £700 through various other fundraising activities.
They were keen to show their support for St Catherine’s after Catherine was cared for on the in-patient unit in April. She had been living with cancer for six years – the last two with an incurable diagnosis – and the family said the support they received from the hospice when the situation became unmanageable at home was invaluable.
Daughter Emma said: “When you are in that situation you could not wish for a better place than St Catherine’s.
“Knowing she had the support she needed was such a relief for us all.
“We had the time and the space to spend proper time together and I was able to bring my little girl Amy – who was just five months old at the time – into the hospice to see her. That time really was precious.
“We all knew we wanted to do something to give something back for that experience. Dad suggested the Morecambe Bay walk as it was an event all the different ages could take part in and we were keen to do something together as a family.
“There was a fantastic atmosphere on the day and it was a beautiful walk. We all really enjoyed it and we’re delighted we could raise this money for a place which gives such amazing care.”
