Family’s peak performance in aid of St Catherine’s!

A local family organised a trio of fundraising events in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice and raised an incredible £3,536!

The Keelan family, who own and run Gainsborough Flooring in Preston, was inspired and encouraged by daughter Holly who began volunteering at the hospice last year whilst studying for her A-levels.

Events included a wine-tasting evening at the store; taking part in the hospice’s Moonlight and Memories Walk; and conquering the three highest peaks in the UK in less than 24 hours. The 3 Peaks Challenge – which saw them climb Snowden, Scarfell and Ben Nevis on a scorching weekend in July – covered 33 miles and 76,000 steps, burning a whopping 8,200 calories!

Holly said: “St Catherine’s has been a fantastic support to me allowing me to gain valuable work experience in my career path.

“The work they do has inspired me to want to raise money and awareness for everything they do to help patients and families when it really matters most. It’s been a privilege to be able to volunteer weekly and work with the St Catherine’s team and patients, and I just wanted to give something back.”

Vicky Keelan, Managing Director of Gainsborough Flooring and Holly’s mum, added: “We’re so proud of Holly and her commitment to St Catherine’s. The whole family has been behind her encouraging each other to complete the challenges. In total we have raised £3,536 for St Catherine’s which we know will be used to help patients and their loved ones through very difficult times in their lives.”

Emma Jacovelli, Head of Community Engagement at St Catherine’s, thanked all the family for their fantastic efforts.
“This is an incredible achievement by the Keelan family and we’re so grateful for their wonderful support.

“Not only does Holly give the ongoing gift of her time and skills by volunteering, she and her family have also made a fantastic contribution to funding our specialised care for local people. On behalf of everyone at St Catherine’s and the patients and families we care for, we’d like to say a huge thank you.”
