First ever St Catherine’s Superstore is open for business!

St Catherine's Superstore 1 croppedBig-hearted staff from a local supermarket distribution centre helped St Catherine’s Hospice to transport stock from the charity’s former city centre furniture shop to their brand new Superstore premises on the Guild Trading Estate.

A dedicated team from Waitrose Distribution Centre in Leyland spent the day loading and unloading items between the two sites which had been transported thanks to the loan of one of the firm’s huge lorries.

The extra support was a huge help to St Catherine’s ahead of the opening of the new-concept store on Monday February 15.

The Superstore is located in Ribbleton Lane and is a one-stop shop for pre-loved furniture, household items, electricals and some cut-price clothing. It follows the closure of the charity’s Walker Street furniture store just before Christmas after 15 years in business.

The new site will also become the headquarters for the hospice’s growing eBay shop, which sells quirky and collectible items online around the country and the world in a bid to raise as much money as possible for St Catherine’s.

Rachel Hewitt, head of trading at the charity, said: “Having the help of Waitrose when moving stock from our old store to the new premises was absolutely fantastic.

“The huge lorry has a much greater capacity compared to our usual vans and meant the job was done much more effectively and efficiently. The team who helped make it happen was amazing – they worked so hard fetching and carrying lots of heavy items. We really couldn’t have done it without them and are so grateful for the time and effort they put in.

“The concept of the shop is to bring a few different things together under one roof, offering a one-stop shop for various home needs, as well as some cut-price clothing. The idea is that there’ll be lots of stock on display for people to browse in the hoping of finding a fabulous bargain.”

The opening of the store is two weeks behind schedule due to various circumstances outside of the charity’s control.

The St Catherine’s Superstore is located at Unit E of the Guild Trading Estate in Ribbleton Lane, PR1 5DP and is open Monday to Saturday 10am until 4pm. Donations can be dropped off on-site and a collection/delivery service also operates for heavy or bulky items. If you are interested in volunteering at the new store click here to fill out the online form or call 01772 629171.
