Former Mayor hands over proceeds from year in office
The former Mayor of South Ribble Coun Dorothy Gardner returned to St Catherine’s Hospice to hand over the proceeds raised through various charity events during her term of office.
Coun Gardner and her husband Melvyn personally delivered a cheque for £2,980 to Chief Executive Stephen Greenhalgh.
The money was raised through various events and activities organised during her term as Mayor from May 2013 to May 2014.
Events included quizzes, raffles, a ‘Mayors at Home’ evening with live music and a ‘Ladies of Achievement’ lunch.
Coun Gardner said she had been proud to serve as mayor and delighted to support St Catherine’s during her term in office.
She said: “It was a wonderful year – an experience I will never forget. It really was an honour.
“What has stayed with me the most from my involvement with St Catherine’s was the visit we made to last Christmas. The patients, staff and volunteers we met were truly inspirational. I am very pleased we have been able to support this fantastic place with this donation.”
