St Catherine's Hospice > Former South Ribble Mayor presents proceeds from year in office

Former South Ribble Mayor presents proceeds from year in office

The former Mayor and Mayoress of South Ribble visited St Catherine’s to hand over the proceeds from their busy year of fundraising.

Coun Graham Walton and his wife Karen, now also a borough councillor for South Ribble, raised a fantastic £4,000 for St Catherine’s through a variety of events during their term in office.

Activities included the Mayor’s Afternoon Tea – which took place at our beautiful café The Mill – a canal boat ‘Tapas Cruise’, a race day out at Beverley and quiz night. Other events include the Mayor’s Inauguration Banquet and Christmas Banquet and the Ladies of Achievement Lunch, held at the Leyland Hotel.

The money raised throughout the year was split between St Catherine’s, the RNLI and the North West Air Ambulance, as well as a collection of smaller charities.

Coun Graham Walton said: “We thoroughly enjoyed our term as Mayor and Mayoress – it was an honour and privilege to represent the people of South Ribble in this way.

“There were all sorts of events that took place throughout the year which have taken us to many different places to meet many interesting people.

“We’re delighted to have raised this money for St Catherine’s and have enjoyed several visits to the hospice during the year when we have seen how the money raised is spent, delivering wonderful care for local people.”

Coun Karen Walton added: “We have had many friends and relatives who have been cared for at St Catherine’s so it is a place which is very close to our hearts. We’re very pleased to have raised this money, which will help others access the same care and support when facing very difficult circumstances.”

Lorraine Charlesworth, Director of Income Generation at St Catherine’s, thanked the Waltons for all they have done.

She said: “It has been a pleasure to welcome Graham and Karen to the hospice during their time in office – the Mayoral visits are always greatly enjoyed by our patients, families, staff and volunteers.

“The money they have raised through this fantastic programme of events is marvellous, and will really help us to continue to be there for people when it matters most.”
