A recipe book which raised vital funds for St Catherine’s Hospice in the 1980s has been revamped and re-launched in mark of our 30th anniversary.
Three decades on from the first St Catherine’s Food Fayre collection, staff, volunteers and supporters have once again shared their best-loved recipes in the second St Catherine’s Cook Book.
It is inspired by the earlier book which was released in the mid-eighties to help raise funds soon after the hospice opened its doors in 1985.
Bernadette Baxter, who has worked at St Catherine’s since day one, said: “Not only did the original book become an important resource in many a discerning cook’s kitchen, it also raised valuable funds to support the on-going development and care of St Catherine’s. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary we decided it was the perfect opportunity to revisit the idea of the recipe book and put together a follow-up edition.
“There’s all sorts of mouth-watering recipes inside our 2015 edition, which have kindly been shared by those with a connection to the charity. So whether you fancy baking a cake, are looking for inspiration for a dinner party, or just need ideas for a quick and easy mid-week tea, then we’ve got it covered.
“Cooking and baking has long been part of St Catherine’s – each month myself and some of the other staff and volunteers bake cakes which are sold to help raise funds. The recipe book is building on this and takes it a step further – giving people the chance to learn how to do it for themselves at home.”
As part of the 30th anniversary Give A Gift campaign with the Lancashire Evening Post, the hospice is aiming to sell 300 copies of the book, with all profits raised going to support the specialised care of St Catherine’s.
The appeal is based around 30 different things St Catherine’s would like to achieve in its 30th anniversary year – one to represent each year it has been open. Along with the recipe book sales, it includes everything from becoming a friend on Facebook to signing up as a volunteer or helping with fundraising for medical equipment.
Books are on sale now online and from the gift shop at the hospice in Lostock Lane, Lostock Hall. The full gift list is also available online. To get involved with the campaign email giveagift@stcatherines.co.uk or call 01772 629171.
