Golden wedding celebration raises £265 for St Catherine’s
A former nurse at St Catherine’s has handed over more than £250 to the hospice after asking for donations instead of presents when she celebrated her golden wedding anniversary.
Carol Wastell and husband Eddie marked their special milestone with a party at Fox Lane Social Club in Leyland welcoming family and friends and a lively ceilidh band.
Instead of receiving presents, the couple asked for donations for St Catherine’s and also the Air Ambulance, with the cash raised split between the two charities.
Carol returned to St Catherine’s – where she worked for 19 years, first as a nurse on the In-Patient Unit and then the Day Therapy Unit – to hand over the proceeds which totalled £265.
Carol, who first met Eddie at a local dance, said: “I have such fond memories of my time at St Catherine’s – I loved it!
“You know that when patients and their families are being looked after by the hospice, they are getting the care they really need and deserve.
“We didn’t want presents – when you get to our age you have everything you need. So we decided to ask for donations instead – I know first-hand what a difference they make and how much the money is needed.”
