Hospice boss takes on world’s fastest zip wire
The Chief Executive of St Catherine’s has joined with thousands of other fundraisers who have supported the hospice during its 30th anniversary year by taking on a 119mph sponsored zip wire challenge.
Stephen Greenhalgh took on the Big Zipper – a mile-long zip-wire across a mountain quarry and lake in North Wales, which claims to be the fastest in the world.
You can see him dive into action below!
With his son Phil and daughter Olivia they have already raised more than £1,000 to support the specialised care of St Catherine’s, and hope that the final total will be even higher.
Stephen – who has previously abseiled St Walburg’s and Preston’s Holiday Inn, zip wired across Preston North End stadium, fire walked and completed a Go Ape challenge to raise money during his time as Chief Executive – said: “Ever since I came here I have seen so many amazing people raise money in all sorts of wonderful ways, I feel proud to help contribute and ‘do my bit’.
“Everyone at Zipworld was very safety conscious, helpful and friendly. Of course, we were twitchy before take-off but when the adrenaline kicked in it was a fantastic experience.
“The highlight, however, was when a guy noticed the St Catherine’s sticker on my hat. His dad had been cared for by a hospice and he told me how important he thinks hospices are helping people in extremely difficult situations. Not only did he end up sponsoring me, but his two brothers did the same! The spontaneity of their donation and willingness to do something practical to help other people really touched us. We came away from the experience with much more than just the thrill of the event.”
