Hospice receives cash boost from Yorkshire Building Society
St Catherine’s Hospice has been awarded £500 from a local building society branch raised through a community fundraising scheme .
Staff at Yorkshire Building Society on Fishergate launched its Charity Choices initiative last month, and picked the hospice at Lostock Hall as one of the three charities to receive a cash prize.
Lorraine Charlesworth, Director of Income Generation at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have received such a huge amount of money from Yorkshire Building Society.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to all the staff and customers who nominated St Catherine’s Hospice as one of the top three charities, and to all of the supporters who voted for us to receive the top cash prize.
“The money is a real cash-boost for St Catherine’s and will go towards providing specialised care to the people of Chorley, Longridge, Preston and South Ribble who are living with life-limiting illnesses.”
The Charity Choices scheme is part of a new initiative designed to support local and worthy causes, and is funded by one of the Yorkshire Building Soceity’s innovative community schemes, Small Change, Big Difference.
Small Change, Big Difference sees members donate the pennies from the interest they receive on their accounts, just once a year, before nominating charities that are close to their hearts to receive support.
Louise Slater, Preston Branch Manager, said: “We’re very proud as a branch to get involved with local charities and are using it as an opportunity to help the local area.
“St Catherine’s Hospice is an inspirational and exceptional place and we hope to continue supporting them in the fture.”
