Jeweller’s sparkling effort for St Catherine’s
Staff from a Preston jewellers got in the saddle to show their support for St Catherine’s Hospice by completing a 21-mile bike ride around the Preston Guild Wheel.
The colleagues from the Preston branch of Peter Jackson Jewellers also raffled off a luxury gift hamper which raised even more cash for the cause.
The group chose to support St Catherine’s with the company’s charity challenge, which saw the five branches and head office compete against each other to see who could raise the most money.
Although they weren’t citemned the winners, they still raised a fantastic £1,362 which will be used to fund the specialised care of the hospice.
Emma Ormerod, manager of the Preston branch who was one of five staff to complete the bike ride, said: “It was tough going after the first half but it was great fun as well – we had such a good time doing something together for such an important cause.
“We received fantastic support from our customers, who bought raffle tickets and sponsored us for the ride and we’re very grateful for their generosity.
“A couple of the girls who work at the branch have had family who have been cared for at St Catherine’s so we know what great work the hospice does, which is why we wanted to support them. We’re delighted with the amount raised!”
Lynne Whittaker, senior fundraiser at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We’re extremely grateful for the fantastic efforts of Peter Jackson jewellers and it’s always wonderful to hear that people enjoyed the experience so much.
“As a local charity which has to raise £3.7m of our £5m running costs each year, fundraising activities like this are so important in helping to ensure our specialised care is there for those in our community who need it.”
