Kind-hearted John hands over birthday cash to St Catherine’s
A kind-hearted grandfather given a £200 donation from work to mark his 80th birthday has handed the cash over to St Catherine’s Hospice.
John Wilkinson from Longridge received the money from Preston Audi where he has worked for the past 40 years.
Knowing he is a big charity supporter, colleagues there decided a cash donation for a good cause of his choice was the best way to celebrate his milestone birthday.
Semi-retired John, who works in the quality department at the firm, said: “My wife Anne and I are long-standing supporters of St Catherine’s – buying things like raffle tickets and Christmas cards and various other things over the years.
“But to be able to hand over such a significant one-off donation to mark my birthday was very special. St Catherine’s was the obvious place to choose as it’s such a local charity which does wonderful work in our community – I’m very pleased to have been able to use my birthday to help.”
Lynne Whittaker, senior fundraiser at the hospice who received the cheque from John, said: “We feel very privileged to have been picked to receive this special donation in honour of John.
“It will be such a boost to our work supporting those affected by life-limiting conditions across the local area. Thank you to everyone for their generosity, and congratulations to John on his milestone birthday!”
