Local pub and community unite for St Catherine’s
The Landlord and Landlady of a local pub have revealed the secret to their recent fundraising success for St Catherine’s Hospice was the spirit of the community.
Glynn and Sandra Henson, Landlord and Landlady to the pub, The Mill Tavern recently hosted a family fun day on the August Bank Holiday weekend, raising a huge £2,040 for the Hospice.
The Mill Tavern have been long-term supporters of the Hospice with this year’s fun day, their third in support of St Catherine’s – and the pair admitted that come rain or shine, it’s always a hugely popular occasion thanks to the help of the local people and businesses in the area.
“The fun days have always been a success,” they admitted – “but we can’t emphasise enough that measures of the success have been down to the generosity of local businesses and the local people – our regulars are always willing to put their hands in their pockets for St Catherine’s.
“80 percent of people who come in here have a connection to the charity one way or another. It’s a community pub supporting a community cause – even the local pubs helped on the day, because they support the Hospice.
“Every year we’ve done it now, it’s got bigger and better. For us, it’s not about getting recognition and bringing people into our pub – it’s about raising awareness and supporting a fine charity in St Catherine’s.”
A huge thanks on behalf of everyone at St Catherine’s to the Mill Tavern, and to everybody who supported and came out on the day!
