St Catherine's Hospice > Mayor to put best foot forward in Morecambe Bay Walk

Mayor to put best foot forward in Morecambe Bay Walk

The Mayor and Mayoress of Preston will be putting their best feet forward to support St Catherine’s Hospice when they take part in the charity’s sponsored Morecambe Bay Walk next month.

Councillor Nick Pomfret and his wife Barbara will be stepping out across the beautiful bay on September 20th, in a picturesque walk led by Cedric Robinson MBE, the Queen’s guide to the sands.

They are now appealing for other members of the local community to join them for the eight-mile walk at low tide from Arnside to Kent’s Bank.

Not only will participants enjoy the beautiful coastline and scenery, they will also be raising vital funds to support the specialised care of the Lostock Hall hospice.

Coun Pomfret, who is fundraising for St Catherine’s throughout his year in office, said: “I am really looking forward to the Morecambe Bay walk and joining those taking part in this popular event.

“The walk raises much needed funds for St Catherine’s Hospice, a charity close to my heart, and this is a fun way to get out and enjoy the fresh, sea air and take in the stunning scenery of the Lancashire coastline.

“There’s still time for people to register and join us on the walk; I’d love to see you there.”

Barbara, his wife of 34 years, added: “We have several events planned in aid of St Catherine’s over the coming months but the Morecambe Bay Walk really appealed to us as completing it will be a great personal achievement, which also raises valuable funds.”

Other events organised as part of the Mayor’s support for St Catherine’s include a Motown Night on October 24th, a quiz on February 5th and the Mayor’s Charity Ball on March 14th.

Lorraine Charlesworth, Director of Income Generation at St Catherine’s Hospice who will also be taking part in the Morecambe Bay walk, said: “We’re delighted that the Mayor and Mayoress will be joining us for this walk through a beautiful part of the world.

“Their support in raising much-needed funds is greatly appreciated and will make such a difference to patients and their families who need the hospice’s care and support.”

People interested in joining the Mayor and Mayoress in the walk on September 20th can register online at www.stcatherines.co.uk or call 01772 629171. Transport is also available to the start point and from the finish.
