St Catherine's Hospice > Moonlight and Memories Walk to be part of Preston Guild City Games!

Moonlight and Memories Walk to be part of Preston Guild City Games!

St Catherine’s Hospice is proud to have been picked as the official charity of the Preston Guild City Games 2014 – with its Moonlight and Memories Walk joining a packed programme of sports and games which make up the prestigious event.
The 13.1 or 8.4 mile walk takes place on June 7th, the second day of the Games which run from June 6th to 8th.

The annual sponsored event – when men, women and children are invited to stride out in memory of a loved one – joins a host of other activities covering everything from rounders to rugby, and badminton to table tennis.
St Catherine’s is now calling on the local community to sign up to the walk and be part of this amazing weekend, all while raising money to support their local hospice.
Lorraine Charlesworth, Director of Income Generation at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We’re over the moon to have been picked as the official charity of the Preston Guild City Games and very excited that our Moonlight and Memories Walk can be part of this year’s line-up.
“The Games are a wonderful occasion which many local businesses, organisations and community groups really look forward to. It’s fantastic to see people coming together, making use of the sporting facilities we have access to in Central Lancashire, and enjoying a competitive, sporting challenge.
“We hope the addition of the Moonlight and Memories Walk will help open the Games up to even more local people.”
Lorraine said the walk, being dubbed a ‘Night to Remember’ by the hospice, was a highlight of the charity’s fundraising calendar.
She added: “It’s a very special event on many levels. People attach dedications and photographs to their T-shirts and post tributes on our Memory Wall to the people they are walking in honour of. There’s a brilliant atmosphere and a lovely feeling of everyone coming together to have fun, raise money and remember the amazing people who have touched our lives. It’s this community spirit which makes it the perfect partner for the Preston Guild City Games.”
Jimmy Khan, chair of Preston Guild City Games Committee, said: “The Preston Guild City Games Committee is honoured that St Catherine’s Hospice has agreed to become the official charity for the upcoming 2014 Games. St Catherine’s Hospice is a true champion in promoting a healthier lifestyle through the delivery of a variety of health-related fundraising events and campaigns.
“The Moonlight and Memories Walk will complement the action packed weekend of activities that the Preston Guild City Games 2014 will offer and help to ensure that the 2014 Games will truly offer something for everyone!”
Registration for the Moonlight and Memories Walk is £16 and covers the cost of taking part only. Participants are also asked to raise money in sponsorship to support the care of the hospice.
