St Catherine's Hospice > Mountain trek raises cash for St Catherine’s

Mountain trek raises cash for St Catherine’s

Colleagues from two local firms came together toclimb the highest mountain in the UK and raised a fantastic total of more than £2,300 to support the vital work of St Catherine’s Hospice.
CPC and UPS employees Carl Knight, Jonny Sumner, Nick Hamer, Martin Williamson, Darren Bottomley, Sean McGuinness, Alex Boyd, Phil Cavanagh, Henrik Horvat and Michael Williamsscaled the famous Ben Nevis mountain in support of St Catherine’safter Carl’s mum was cared for by the hospice before sadly losing her battle to cancer.

Jonny Sumner, who works forCPC, said: “Carl lost his mum last Christmas and members of the group have been personally touched by the work of St Catherine’s. We wanted to give something back to show our appreciation for the specialised care the hospice provides to people in the community.
“We were exhausted by the end but felt an enormous sense of achievement and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”
CPC generously sponsored the pals £400 for completing thegruelling hike, helping to raise a grand total of £2328.50 for the charity.
During the trek, the team battled plumetting temperatures, poor visibility due to the densityof the cloud and mist, andthick snow underfoot.

Despite the challenges, Jonny said the group of friends and colleagues hadthoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“We all enjoyed every minute and developed an enormous team spirit when everybody made it to the top despite temperatures of minus seven degrees.

“We’d been organising the event for months and in order to prepare correctly for the task we sampled the local chip shop and pubs before one final drink in the hotel bar and a fairly early night!
“There was an anxious wait in the hotel restaurant at 7am to see if everyone could manage the 6am alarm, but the cars were loaded and everyone was in good spirits.”
The 10-strong groupsaid thatthis wouldn’t be their last attempt at fundraising for the hospice.
Jonny, from Preston, added: “St Catherine’s Hospice does a fantastic job and we’ll be doing plenty more fundraising for them in the years to come.”
