Mum’s sponsored head shave for St Catherine’s
A doting mum braved a charity head shave to raise money for St Catherine’s Hospice in memory of her much-loved son.
Josie Bennett said goodbye to her luscious locks in a sponsored event which was also organised in tribute to her sister Elsie Malley.
Both Elsie and Josie’s son Robert Darnley were cared for at St Catherine’s Hospice and Josie was keen to do something to show her support.
She said: “I did the Ice Bucket Challenge in the summer and donated £10 to St Catherine’s but I wanted to do more.
“I thought, if 10 people donate £10 each we’d have £100 so I got thinking about what I could do and decided on the head shave.”
Josie had no qualms about going under the razor – and in fact had already undergone another head shave in the past, when she was raising money to fund a chair for a nursing home where she used to work.
The latest event was held at the Wellfield Pub in Preston, and her daughter-in-law Angela Darnley did the deed!
Krazy Kitchen provided the catering along with a donation of £90, which was also matched by the pub.
In total, thanks to their generosity and the kind donations of her friends and family, Josie raised an amazing £700 for St Catherine’s.
She added: “It was a fantastic event and a great celebration with lots of family and friends.
“I’m delighted to have raised this money for St Catherine’s in memory of Robert and Elsie.”
