St Catherine's Hospice > New concept charity superstore opens its doors

New concept charity superstore opens its doors

We’re proud to have launched an exciting new concept charity shop which offers customers the chance to dress the whole family for just £10!

Rachel Hewitt at the new St Catherine's Superstore

The Buy a Bag initiative at the St Catherine’s Superstore invites shoppers to fill a branded bag to the brim with women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, accessories and toys and take it all home for a set £10 price tag.

Rachel Hewitt, head of trading at the hospice, said: “We’re delighted to be launching the new-look Superstore which we’re billing as the ultimate charity shop experience – with clothes, accessories, toys and furniture all under one roof.

“Our Buy a Bag offer is perfect for avid charity shoppers who love a good rummage, as well as those on the hunt for high street and quality brands for the bargain price of £10 a bag.

“We’re sure shoppers will be impressed with how much they can fit inside – from ball gowns to handbags and everything in between. So whether you’re in need of a quick fix wardrobe overhaul, or are on the hunt for a capsule holiday wardrobe for the whole family, St Catherine’s Buy a Bag could be the answer.”

Mum-to-be Zoe Sneddon, aged 27 and from Penwortham, was at the store on opening morning.

Zoe SneddonZoe said: “I don’t want to spend a lot on maternity clothes that I won’t be wearing for long, so I thought the Buy a Bag offer was brilliant! I’m stocking up on things in larger sizes to see me through pregnancy, without spending a fortune. I think it’s a great idea and the store looks really good.”

Stock is laid out in bins according to size with new deliveries from the hospice’s other charity shops across Central Lancashire arriving three times a week.

Rachel said: “All of the Superstore stock is quality checked and approved and has been on sale on the shop floor of one of our other stores before arriving. For one reason or another it has not sold, but the Superstore provides another outlet. We’re incredibly grateful for the donations we receive from our community and work hard to make the most money for St Catherine’s from every item given – the launch of the Superstore will help us achieve this in a new way which will also benefit savvy shoppers.”

The Superstore, in Portman Street on the Guild Trading Estate, Ribbleton, is also home to a large pre-loved furniture showroom selling a range of items including three piece suites, sofas, beds, bookcases, dining tables and chairs and cabinets. An upcycled furniture collection, produced in partnership with Peppermint Cottage in Leyland, will be on sale featuring one-off creations which have been re-mastered by hand.

John Porter called by on the opening day as he was in the area and ended up going away with several framed prints for his son.

John said: “He has just bought a big house in London so has lots of empty wall space which needs filling. The Superstore is great value and I’m really pleased the proceeds will help the work of the hospice which is so important.”

The store is open Monday to Saturday 10am until 4pm. Anyone interested in volunteering there should contact the hospice on 01772 629171. For the latest information from the store, including offers and stock updates, follow our dedicated Facebook page.
