NFU Mutual in Preston supports St Catherine’s Hospice

NFU Mutual Agents and their staff at the Preston agency have nominated St Catherine’s Hospice to receive a donation of more than £3,000 from a national £1m ‘Agency Giving Fund’ launched by NFU Mutual’s Head Office.

In light of the national emergency, NFU Mutual, the UK’s leading rural insurer, has allocated £1m to help local frontline charities at this difficult time.

The donation will help St Catherine’s to continue providing its specialist palliative and end-of-life care to local people – including patients with Coronavirus – at the Lostock Hall hospice and in people’s own homes. The charity also provides emotional support to people affected by life-shortening illnesses such as cancer and motor neurone disease and their loved ones, including bereavement counselling.

Senior Agent for the NFU Mutual in Preston, Jo Oliver, said: “The Coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on everybody, including our customers and their local communities. St Catherine’s Hospice is making a wonderful difference at this time of need in our community during these challenging times as it always does, and we are proud to have been able to nominate this local charity to benefit from NFU Mutual’s national fund.”

Jo added: “The entire team at Preston are so proud to support St Catherine’s; we never know when any of us, our families or our customers will need their support and it’s really important that we can do our bit to help where we can.”

Emma Jacovelli, head of community engagement at the hospice, said. “We’re extremely thankful to NFU Mutual Preston for nominating our charity to receive a donation from the NFU Mutual Agency Giving Fund. The money will help us to continue keeping around 250 people out of hospital every day, during the pandemic and in the future. With our usual fundraising activities affected this year – such as our summer events, our charity shops and our social enterprise café and community hub, The Mill – donations such as this are so gratefully appreciated.”

To help ensure the support reaches all corners of the UK, NFU Mutual reached out to its Appointed Representative network of local Agents. Consisting of around 300 independent Agency businesses, each have been given the opportunity to nominate a handful of local charities to receive a share of this fund.
