Penwortham shop re-location plans
We are seeking to relocate our charity shop within Penwortham, as we look for premises which will better suit the needs of our community and our charity.
Our Penwortham store has been incredibly well supported over the years and is a credit to the dedicated staff and volunteers; we are therefore excited by the prospect of opening a larger shop in the town in the future.
It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to close the Penwortham shop in the meantime. This decision has not been taken lightly and a number of factors were considered before the decision was made.
It has become apparent that the shop is not big enough to be financially self-sustaining, as it is no longer viable in raising sufficient funds for the care St Catherine’s provides for local people at the hospice and in their own homes. The final day of trading will be 28th October.
As a charity we are reaching more people who need us than ever before, and we are constantly looking at ways to generate much-needed income while recognising and appreciating all of the fantastic efforts and support of our community which has made St Catherine’s what it is today.
We are hopeful that it won’t be too long before we can secure a new location in the heart of Penwortham, which will enable us to accept donations (potentially including furniture donations) and which will be better placed to serve the requirements of donors and customers, while raising vital funds and awareness of our services to a wider audience.
The town holds a special place in our hearts and is an important part of hospice life. Although this shop is closing, we will still have a presence in Penwortham, with a number of fundraising and community activities planned including the popular annual family fun day at Godwin’s Fish & Chips and The Black Bull Inn, and pop-up Christmas fairs and stalls.
We are also grateful to be the chosen charity for a number of businesses in Penwortham, and we’re pleased to be members of the Penwortham Business Network which allows us to look for new opportunities for events and connections, as well as maintaining our continued search for suitable premises for a larger shop which can retain the community feel of our Priory Lane store.
Your support of St Catherine’s is very much appreciated; we simply could not provide the care we do to our patients and their loved ones without the unwavering support of our volunteers and customers, as well as people who donate and fundraise, attend our events, play the lottery, visit The Mill café, and the many other amazing ways people show their support for St Catherine’s Hospice.
Thank you for your understanding.
