Pupils’ cake sale and Christmas jumper day for St Catherine’s
Three friends at a Chorley primary school organised a cake sale and Christmas jumper day in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice and raised a fantastic £223.
Libby Dearden wanted to do something in support of the charity after her dad Andrew was cared for at St Catherine’s. He enjoyed attending day therapy at the hospice and she had accompanied him on visits where she saw the work that goes on.
She joined with friends Annie Hitchen and Caitlin Davies and members of the School Council to organise the day of festive fundraising in aid of St Catherine’s, when they and fellow pupils sported Christmas jumpers for the day in return for a donation.
Libby, Annie and Caitlin also baked cakes which were sold on the day. They designed and created posters to advertise the initiative around school and in total raised a brilliant £223 for St Catherine’s.
The trio visited St Catherine’s to hand over the proceeds and spent time meeting staff and patients in the day therapy lounge at the hospice.
Libby said: “I am very proud to have done something to support St Catherine’s which is such a special place.”
