SingitBig Sing Up For St Catherine’s
A local choir sang their support for St Catherine’s Hospice last month by hosting an evening of music at the Lancastrian Suite in Chorley Town Hall.
The group, ‘SingitBig’ sang classics such as ‘Wonderful World’, ‘California Dreaming’ and ‘Man in the Mirror’ and raised a grand total of £671 for St Catherine’s through ticket sales, a raffle, and general donations from the audience.
The choir was welcomed on stage by more than 150 audience members, including the Mayor of Chorley, Councillor Marion Lowe, who introduced them to the crowd.
Among those performing were Debbie Jones and Karen Strickland who first formed the singing group in April 2013.
The choir, which now has more than 50 members, performs regularly around Chorley and Leyland for various charities and the local community – and there was no doubt in their minds that they wanted St Catherine’s to be one of them, when the idea of hosting an event first came about.
Karen said: “The choir en-masse demanded one day during rehearsal to do a concert of their own – and it was unanimous that the chosen charity was to be St Catherine’s Hospice as the work they do has been very close to a lot of our members’ hearts.
“All of the members of the choir helped and contributed so much to the event, and Chorley’s Town hall staff Paul Brindle and the team were as helpful as they could have been throughout the whole process.
“This not only made it a successful and entertaining musical performance but a joyous team effort adding yet another layer to the choir that me and Debbie are so very proud of.
“We are so proud to say that together, ‘Singitbig’ raised £671 for St Catherine’s Hospice!”
