St Catherine's Hospice > Skater Stacey shows her support for Hospice Care Week

Skater Stacey shows her support for Hospice Care Week

Champion Chorley ice-skater Stacey Kemp has given her backing to a national awareness week dedicated to raising the profile of hospice care.
During Hospice Care Week – which runs until Sunday (October 13) – St Catherine’s is joining with more than 100 hospices around the country to highlight that as people live longer and with more complex conditions, the need for the type of specialised care hospices provide is increasing.

Supporters are being askedto take the Count Me In! pledge as part of the week – committing to telling five people why hospice care counts.
Stacey, whose father David was cared for at St Catherine’s before his death from bowel cancer in 2004, took the pledge in the middle of a jaw-dropping ice-dance lift!
The Winter Olympic 2014 hopeful, who with partner David has won the British Pair Skating Championships eight times, said: “I wanted to show my support for Hospice Care Week after St Catherine’s cared for my dad at a very difficult time in my life.
“They made every day special for my dad and the people around him. It’s important to me to be a part of the week – showing my appreciation after being personally touched by the great work hospices do to make every moment count.”
Other high profile supporters of the week include the Mayor of South Ribble Coun Dorothy Gardner, Leader of Preston Council Peter Rankin, Mayor of Preston Coun Veronica Afrin and Preston MP Mark Hendrick.
Mayor Gardner said: “The care that hospices like St Catherine’s offer is so important for those nearing the end of their life and their families. They offer real quality care for those at a time of need.

“I support the great work that hospices do and feel honoured to support St Catherine’s as one of my charities during my time as the Mayor of South Ribble.”
