St Catherine’s helps supporters to strike gold with new A-Z of Fundraising ideas

A-Z of FundraisingSt Catherine’s Hospice is building on the momentum of a busy summer events season by helping supporters to strike gold with its creative A-Z of Fundraising ideas.

It comes as supporters seek new and imaginative ways to raise vital funds after downpours forced the cancellation of the hospice’s flagship Symphony at the Tower concerts earlier this summer.

Chief executive Stephen Greenhalgh explained: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm we’ve received from local people after we were forced to cancel two of the Hoghton Tower concerts.

“We’d like to thank the public for their understanding, and for the Olympian efforts of our amazing supporters to help us plug that funding gap!

“Through insurance cover, the charity did not lose any money from the cancellation of our concerts but we did miss out on the thousands of pounds that we would have raised over the weekend.

“But in the weeks that have followed, we’ve been thrilled by the public’s Olympic-style determination to make up the difference. This inspired us to come up with a list of ideas – something from every letter of the alphabet – to help people do their bit.

“There’s something for everyone, from Afternoon Teas to Zumbathons, Jumper Days at schools and offices, and hosting a Wine and Cheese Night for your friends and family.”

People can enjoy Bad Tie Days, friends can host Coffee and Cake Mornings, and school children or Scouts and Brownies can take part in Dance-offs.

Other suggestions include Foreign Money (donating change brought back from holidays); Eating at The Mill Café in the hospice grounds (from which all profits go to the charity); Donating to Charity Shops (which accept clothing, toys, furniture and books); or Quitting for 30 Days (giving up anything from booze or caffeine, or even TV for a month.)

A Mates’ Mile urges groups of friends to get together and walk, cycle, or jog a mile – or complete the distance by any means they can think of!

Leaving a Gift in a Will to St Catherine’s is another great way of helping local people, or collecting donations for Knitting or Ironing for neighbours and friends.

Stephen added: “We have all been astonished by the fabulous success of our Team GB Olympic athletes who have gone to such extraordinary lengths to succeed.  And whilst most of us couldn’t be in Rio, it is inspiring to see the Olympian commitment that so many are showing to strike gold for local people suffering from cancer, MS, heart failure and other life-shortening illnesses.”
