St Catherine’s Hospice Wins Gold
St Catherine’s Hospice was proud to be the official charity for the UKCorporate Games 2012. It’s a prestigious, multi-sport event that takes place annually in various countries around the world andwas hosted by Preston this year.It was a spectacular eventand thousands of competitors gathered in the city to take part over the weekend.
Not only were we nominated to be the official charity but our fantastic staff and volunteers at the Hospice joined together to win a number of medals including gold in Golf, which we are over the moon with. Lynne Whittaker, Senior Fundraiser at St Catherine’s said, “It has been an absolute honour and pleasure to have been the official charity at this year’s UK Corporate Games and we are grateful to the organisers for the opportunity. Our fundraising team and volunteers worked extremely hard to ensure a successful weekend, raising our profile together with much needed funds.”
Employees representing businesses from all over the UK such as, IBM, BAE Systems, Intel and ASDA made the journey to Preston to take part in a number of different sporting activities. Venues across the City hosted the different activities for the occasion, including, Vernon Carus Cricket Club, Preston Golf Club, Preston College and Riversway Docklands.
On Saturday evening there was a huge parade through the City centre, where Athletes carried flags andbanners and joined in the celebrations with the Samba Band that were leading the procession.
This was followed by a party at 53 degrees at the University of Central Lancashire for everybody to celebrate their participation in the three days of competitions.
The Corporate Games was a fantastic accomplishment for everybody who took part and Preston exceeded its level of hospitality. St Catherine’s Hospice obtained generous donations that will go towards funding much needed care for local people with life limiting illnesses.
