St Catherine’s shops rally round to raise funds for our Give A Gift appeal
Staff, volunteers and customers from St Catherine’s Hospice charity shops across the area joined together and raised an amazing £3,260 to buy a piece of specialist equipment for the in-patient unit – one of the items from the organisation’s 30th birthday gift list.
Each shop across Chorley, Preston and South Ribble hosted their own fundraising events and campaigns to help generate extra cash and show their support for the 30th anniversary Give A Gift appeal, run in partnership with the Lancashire Evening Post and the Guardian.
Initiatives included cake sales, tombolas, guess the number of sweets in the jar and a car wash. The team from Penwortham Boutique also took part in the Moonlight and Memories Walk and raised money through sponsorship.
The money will be used to purchase an Alaris pump for the hospice’s 19-bed in-patient unit. The pump is used to deliver fluids, certain medications and blood transfusions to patients. The equipment ensures the fluids are delivered precisely as prescribed so that patients get the treatments they need at the right intervals and at the correct levels.
Jimmy Brash, director of care at St Catherine’s, said: “This is an invaluable piece of equipment which will be of great benefit to our patients and staff.
“We’re extremely impressed with the creativity and dedication our shop teams have shown, and of course a big thank you goes to all the customers who so generously supported their efforts.”
Rachel Hewitt, head of trading at St Catherine’s, added: “Our charity shops have played a huge part in the success of St Catherine’s over the past 30 years – they were raising money for the appeal fund before the hospice even opened its doors. So it was only right that they came together to do something to mark this special anniversary and make an extra contribution during this milestone year.
“Along with all their important day to day business, they have gone the extra mile organising these fundraising events and it is wonderful that their efforts and the generosity of customers have helped us tick another item off our birthday gift list.”
