Stateside afternoon tea raises funds for St Catherine’s
A loving niece organised a fundraising afternoon tea at her home across the pond in memory of her aunt who was cared for at St Catherine’s.
Sylvia Ghorbani moved from Preston to Virginia, United States, when she was 19, but spent several months back in her home county this summer when her aunt Irene Eccles was being cared for at St Catherine’s.
She has now returned home to America, but is still keen to show her support for the charity which cared for Irene, and also her father back in 1999.
Sylvia organised a traditional English afternoon tea at her home, and the friends who attended dressed up in fancy hats for the occasion.
So far, Sylvia has raised around £300 for St Catherine’s and plans to continue with her fundraising efforts.
It will all be put together with donations made in Irene’s memory at her funeral – which total almost £1,000 – and be used to help fund the refurbishment of our in-patient unit conservatory. The project is one of the items which forms part of our Give A Gift 30th anniversary appeal and Sylvia said it would be a ‘fitting tribute’ to Irene who used to enjoy spending time there.
