Teen completes gruelling night time bike ride
A determined teen faced freezing cold conditions during a night time bike ride to raise £524.50 for St Catherine’s Hospice.
Fourteen-year-old Jenna Culshaw, who lives in Ingol and attends Broughton High School, took part in the charity challenge with the North West Cycle Coaching club.
Her mum Alison explained: “We visited a close family friend in the hospice and we were so impressed with the care provided that Jenna decided to raise sponsorship money for the cause when she took part in the bike ride.
“It was a 35-mile ride setting off from the Scout hut in Leyland at 10pm, doing a circuit around nearby towns including Croston, and finishing at 1.30am.
“She enjoyed the ride but it was below freezing, and with it being at night time, it was fairly tough but very rewarding for her.”
Hayley Jackson, community engagement officer at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “We’re so grateful that Jenna chose to support us through this fundraising feat. She’s raised an amazing amount which really helps us make a difference to local people affected by life-shortening illnesses. I’d like to say a very big ‘thank you’ for her fantastic efforts and support.”
