Thank You Marie Ahamed
Marie Ahamed served as a dedicated and highly committed trustee of St Catherine’s for 11 years and began work with the Hospice prior to that as a volunteer in the Day Care Unit. Sadly, Marie died in March this year As Chair of the Patient Care Committee.
Marie carried senior responsibility for ensuring that specialist palliative care was shaped around the needs of patients, carers and families. Development in recent years has been impressive and included broadening care for a greater range of medical conditions, the appointment of the first Consultant in Palliative Medicine as Hospice Medical Director, new larger single patient rooms with en-suite facilities and space for relatives to stay with patients overnight, a new pharmacy, a new electronic patient record system, a new Lymphoedema Clinic and Day Therapy facilities.
Marie was an extremely encouraging and thoughtful lady with a great understanding of how ‘people tick’, a lovely dry sense of humour and a knack of finding practical solutions to seemingly intractable problems.
Her exceptional contribution and legacy to St Catherine’s is far more significant than she realised.
