Volunteers from five local charities join together to mark Volunteer Week
Volunteers from five local charities including St Catherine’s Hospice put their best feet forward in a special walk organised to celebrate national Volunteers’ Week.
The Lancashire Dotcom Walking Group organised the event in partnership with St Catherine’s Hospice, Cuerden Valley Park Trust, Sue Ryder at Cuerden Hall in Bamber Bridge, the Brothers of Charity at Lisieux HallinWhittle-le-Woods and Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside Wildlife Trust.
The idea was to bring volunteers together to celebrate the vital role they play in the local community, and enjoy a walk which passes through the area where each of the charities is based.
A health walk run each week by Cuerden Valley Park volunteer Michael Swarbrick also joined in the event, which finished with a picnic at Lisieux Hall.
Bob Clare, who runs Lancashire Dotcom Walkers and volunteers with the Brothers of Charity advocacy group Voice for All, said it had been a fantastic day out.
“It was a good way to celebrate the role volunteers in our community,” he added.
“Thank you to Dave and Teresa for supervising the road crossings, to the other Dotcoms who assisted in marshalling, to the health walkers – we enjoyed meeting you – to other volunteers for joining us, to Voice for All for the warmth of the welcome at Lisieux Hall, and to Michael Swarbrick for leading the walk.
“Hopefully we’ll repeat the event next year.”
